Ragdoll Kittens for Sale Melbourne: Ragdoll Cats for Sale in Victoria

Looking for Ragdoll kittens for sale in Melbourne? Families from all over Victoria make up a big part of every Regal Ragdoll Kittens waitlist, even though our Ragdolls are bred and raised in our family home in Bowral, in the Southern Highlands of NSW, around 760 km up the Hume from Melbourne.

Your kitten comes to you at twelve to thirteen weeks, already desexed and microchipped, with both F3 vaccinations, a vet health certificate, limited-registration pedigree papers and six weeks of pet insurance. A licensed pet transporter flies them into Melbourne Airport in an airline-approved carrier. You choose from photos and videos, watch them grow through weekly photos, and meet them at the airport.

Ragdoll kittens Melbourne buyers can reserve now

Here is who is in the house this season. Melbourne buyers reserve exactly as local families do: a deposit from six weeks old, which comes off the price. Every pet kitten is $1,500, and the flight is the only extra.

Ragdoll cat breeders Melbourne buyers compare

There are Ragdoll cat breeders in Victoria, and if one near Melbourne has the right kitten, proper health testing and a home you can visit, that is a good choice. Victorian sellers have to show a Pet Exchange Register source number in every advert for a cat, so look for it before you make contact.

Plenty of Melbourne families still choose Regal Ragdoll Kittens in Bowral, NSW, usually for a particular colour or because our waitlist timing suits them. Distance changes how you choose, not what you check: HCM and PKD DNA results on both parents, pedigree papers, recent videos of the kitten with its mother, and a go-home age of twelve weeks or older. Our answers are on our queens and king page and in how to buy a Ragdoll kitten.

Ragdoll kittens Melbourne, Australia: the flight from NSW

Once your kitten is twelve weeks old and our vet has signed the health certificate, I book them with a licensed pet transport company. The transporter handles the airline booking, and your kitten travels in an approved carrier with a blanket that smells of our house. You collect at Melbourne Airport. I send you the booking details and arrival time as soon as the transporter confirms them, so you can plan the trip out to the airport.

Drive to Bowral and collect by appointmentAround 9 hours each way via the Hume (about 760 km)No charge from us

Here is where I land on this, and I say it to every Melbourne family who asks: fly the kitten rather than drive. People assume the car is kinder, but a nine-hour run up and down the Hume means a twelve-week-old kitten spends most of a day in a carrier, needing a litter tray stop or two in a strange car park. The flight is far shorter, the transporter's handlers move animals every day, and the kitten is out of the carrier and exploring your lounge room hours sooner. If you are visiting family in Sydney or the Highlands anyway, collection in person is lovely. Otherwise, book the flight. The full process is on our interstate kitten delivery page.

Inner north: Brunswick, Coburg and Fawkner

Allow about half an hour from Tullamarine on the Tullamarine Freeway on a clear run. These suburbs sit in Merri-bek, which has a new cat confinement order coming, so read the rules section below carefully before your kitten's council registration date.

The eastern suburbs: Knox, Boronia and Ferntree Gully

The drive home from the airport crosses the city on the ring road and EastLink, so leave extra time in peak hour. Knox already requires cats to be kept on their owner's property at all times, which suits a Ragdoll fine.

Geelong, Ballarat and Bendigo

Regional Victorian families still collect at Melbourne Airport, our nearest capital-city drop-off. Bring a towel to drape over the carrier for the drive home, and have the room set up before you leave so the kitten goes straight into one quiet space.

Cat curfews and Victorian council rules

Victoria leaves a lot to individual councils, so two friends in neighbouring suburbs can live under quite different cat rules. This is the general picture. Always check the current rules on your own council's website.

Microchipping and council registration

In Victoria every cat must be microchipped before it is sold, given away or registered with a council for the first time. All cats aged three months and over must be registered with their local council, and registration renews by 10 April every year. Desexed cats get reduced fees. Our kittens arrive chipped and desexed, with the microchip transferred on the NSW Pet Registry; you then register with your Victorian council and keep your details current with both the microchip registry and council.

Cat curfews and confinement orders

Councils can make cat confinement orders under section 25 of the Domestic Animals Act 1994, and many across Melbourne have. Two examples show how much they vary. Knox requires cats to be kept on the owner's property at all times, though they may leave in a carrier or on a leash, and cats over three months must be microchipped, desexed and registered. Merri-bek's order takes effect on 1 April 2027: cats registered before that date must be confined to the owner's premises from 7pm to 7am, while cats registered from that date must be confined at all times. So a Merri-bek kitten registered this summer falls under the overnight rule, and one registered after April 2027 under the all-day rule. Either way, I would keep them inside.

How many cats you can keep

Many Victorian councils cap the number of cats per property without a permit. In Knox, for example, the limit is two cats on a property under 4,000 square metres. If you are thinking about a Ragdoll pair and already own a cat, check this first.

Renting with a cat in Victoria

Renters use the official pet request form from Consumer Affairs Victoria, one per pet. The rental provider has 14 days to respond, and can only refuse with an order from VCAT. Send the form the week you pay your deposit, not the week your kitten arrives.

A Ragdoll cat in Melbourne apartments and winters

Melbourne's weather can swing from a cool change to a hot north wind in an afternoon, and an indoor Ragdoll does not care in the slightest. That is one reason I think this breed suits the city so well. They are content indoors, they are quiet, and they do not need a backyard to be happy. Our Ragdoll temperament and size notes covers their size and temperament in more depth.

Ragdolls in Melbourne apartments

A one or two-bedroom apartment in Southbank, Docklands or Carlton is plenty of room for a Ragdoll, provided someone is home for a good part of the day. Before your kitten arrives, look at three things: your owners corporation rules, whether the balcony can be netted or kept closed, and where the litter tray will sit away from the food. An open balcony is not safe for any cat, however placid. Vertical space helps too. A floor-to-ceiling cat tree by a window gives a city Ragdoll something to watch all day.

Houses, courtyards and catios

In the suburbs, a courtyard catio is the best answer to a council confinement order. Melbourne's cool, damp winters mean you will want a roofed section your cat can use in the rain, plus somewhere dry to curl up. On the handful of very hot days each summer, shut the catio, draw the blinds, and leave a cool tiled floor for them to stretch out on.

Two kittens for working households

Ragdolls are sociable, and a lone kitten in an apartment while two adults commute into the CBD every day can get bored and clingy. If that sounds like your week, consider two kittens. The Ragdoll kitten prices by colour and pattern apply to each kitten, and the flight cost for two travelling together is something to ask the transporter about when we book. The steps for buying a Ragdoll kitten are the same either way, and you can meet the parents of our current litters before you decide.

Questions from Victorian families

How do I get a Ragdoll kitten from NSW to Melbourne?

We book a licensed pet transport company, which flies your kitten in an airline-approved carrier to Melbourne Airport at Tullamarine, where you collect. The flight is charged at cost, usually $350 to $550. You can also drive to Bowral and collect by appointment, but at around nine hours each way I only suggest that if you are already travelling to New South Wales.

Do I need to register a Ragdoll kitten with my Melbourne council?

Yes. Every cat in Victoria aged three months or older must be registered with the local council, and it must be microchipped before its first registration. Registration renews by 10 April each year, and desexed cats attract reduced fees. Our kittens arrive at twelve to thirteen weeks already desexed and microchipped, so you can register as soon as they are home.

Is there a cat curfew in Melbourne?

There is no single Melbourne-wide curfew, but many councils have made cat confinement orders. Knox requires cats to stay on the owner's property at all times. Merri-bek's order starts on 1 April 2027: cats registered before then must be confined from 7pm to 7am, and cats registered from that date at all times. Check your own council's rules before your kitten arrives.

Can I keep a Ragdoll in a rental in Melbourne?

Usually, yes, but ask first. In Victoria a renter uses the official pet request form, and the rental provider has 14 days to respond. If they want to refuse, they must apply to VCAT within that time, and you cannot bring the pet in while VCAT decides. Lodge the form as soon as you reserve a kitten, well before go-home day.

Can I meet the kitten before it flies to Melbourne?

Yes, through photos and videos. Most Melbourne families choose their kitten from the photos and videos I send, then receive weekly photos and videos until go-home at twelve to thirteen weeks. You are also welcome to visit Bowral by appointment once the kittens are six weeks old, and some families combine that with a Sydney trip.

How much are Ragdoll kittens for sale in Melbourne?

Every Regal Ragdoll kitten is $1,500, whatever its colour or pattern, and the flight to Melbourne Airport is added at cost, usually $350 to $550. Most Melbourne families pay $1,850 to $2,050 in total. Desexing, the microchip, both F3 vaccinations, a vet check and pedigree papers are all part of that kitten price.
