Ragdoll kittens Hobart and Tasmania
Ragdoll kittens for sale for Hobart and the rest of Tasmania come from our home at Regal Ragdoll Kittens in Bowral, in the NSW Southern Highlands. I'm Shannon. A kitten from our house reaches Hobart by air with a licensed pet transporter. Tasmanian families choose from photos and videos, follow their kitten through weekly photos and videos, and collect at Hobart Airport.
Our kittens fly at twelve to thirteen weeks of age. By then our vet has desexed and microchipped them, given both F3 vaccinations and signed a health certificate, and their mother and father have both tested clear of the HCM and PKD mutations. In Tasmania that is more than a nice extra: the state's Cat Management Act requires every cat over four months to be desexed and microchipped, and ours arrive with both done.
The litters below are in our house now. A Tasmanian family reserves the same way as anyone else, with a deposit from six weeks old that comes off the final price. If no one here is right for you, the waitlist is free to join.

Extra fluffy and happy to be carried around the house.

Long-legged, chatty and the first to the door.

Playful, bold and fascinated by running water.
Tasmania is the one place we send kittens where the routing is genuinely up in the air. Some days there is a suitable direct flight. On others the transporter connects the kitten through Melbourne. I would rather they choose the routing that keeps the kitten's day short and calm than hold out for a direct service, so I never promise one. You get the confirmed flight details from me as soon as the transporter books them.
| Option | Travel time | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Licensed pet transporter to Hobart Airport | Depends on routing: direct, or connecting via Melbourne | At cost, usually $350 to $550 |
| Collect from our home in Bowral by appointment | Your own travel to the Southern Highlands | No charge from us |
Hobart Airport is at Cambridge, on the eastern shore, so the drive back over the Tasman Bridge into the city or down the Southern Outlet to Kingston is short. Have the kitten's room warm before you leave home. On a winter afternoon the walk from the cargo counter to the car is cold, so bring a spare towel to wrap the carrier.
Families in Bellerive, Lindisfarne, Howrah or Rokeby are close to the airport, which makes this the easiest collection in the state. Even so, keep the carrier closed until you are inside with the doors shut.
We fly to the capital-city airport, so northern families collect in Hobart and drive home up the Midland Highway. That is a long stretch for a tired kitten. Plan one quiet stop to check them through the carrier door, and set up a small room at home first rather than giving them the run of the house on night one.
Tasmania manages cats mainly through the Cat Management Act 2009, run by the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania. Here are the parts that matter for a family buying a pet kitten. Check the current rules with NRE Tasmania and with your local council, as some councils consider their own cat measures.
Biosecurity Tasmania says there are no restrictions on importing cats into the state, and a cat does not need to be declared or inspected. It asks that the cat is in good health to travel, with vaccinations up to date. Our vet health certificate and two F3 vaccinations cover that.
Cats over four months old must be desexed and microchipped, with exemptions such as a vet certifying that the procedure would harm the cat, or the owner being a registered breeder. Tasmanian law also sets a minimum standard for any cat sold or given away in the state: at least eight weeks old, desexed, microchipped and vaccinated, among other conditions. Our kittens leave older than that and with all of it done.
We transfer your kitten's microchip on the NSW Pet Registry. NRE Tasmania warns that the HomeSafeID registry is no longer operating and suggests owners look up their cat's chip on the PetAddress website to check which registry holds it, so do that once your kitten is home and confirm your details are correct.
Since 1 March 2022, a person can keep no more than four cats on an individual property unless they hold a multiple cat permit or fit another exception, such as being a registered breeder.
This is the rule that surprises mainland buyers. Under the Cat Management Act, any person may trap, seize or detain a cat on their own private property, then must return it to its owner or take it to a cat management facility within 24 hours. A Ragdoll who wanders next door can legally end up in a neighbour's trap.
My strong recommendation for Tasmanian buyers is to keep your Ragdoll indoors for life, with a catio if you have the space. In my experience Ragdolls are trusting cats who are slow to read danger. Add the trapping rule, the roads and Tasmania's wildlife, and the case for an indoor life is stronger there than anywhere else we send kittens. Tasmania still has animals that are rare or gone on the mainland, including eastern quolls and eastern barred bandicoots, and a well-fed pet cat will still hunt.
The semi-long Ragdoll coat thickens noticeably through a cold winter, and Hobart's chilly months suit the breed well. Indoors, they will find the warmest spot in the house, usually in front of the heat pump or the wood heater. Put a guard around any wood heater and keep the cat out of the room when the fire is being lit or cleaned. A heated pad in their bed is a welcome extra on a frosty night with snow on kunanyi.
Tasmanian summer evenings stay light late, and a Ragdoll in a screened catio will happily sit out watching birds until dusk without being able to reach them. Use strong mesh rather than shade cloth on the sides, because possums are curious and will climb it. A roof keeps out the rain that rolls off the mountain.
That heavy winter coat comes out in spring, sometimes in tufts. A metal comb through the ruff and the britches twice a week stops it matting. There is more on coat care, size and temperament in our notes on the Ragdoll as a breed.
When you are ready to start, our guide to buying a Ragdoll kitten from us explains the waitlist and deposit, the Ragdoll kitten flights and delivery page covers arrival day, and you can meet the queens and king behind each litter on our breeding cats page.

Yes. A licensed pet transport company flies your kitten from us to Hobart Airport in an airline-approved carrier, and you collect there. Depending on the airline schedule, the trip may be a direct flight or may connect through Melbourne, and the transporter decides the safest routing. The cost is passed on at cost, usually $350 to $550, and the details are on our delivery page.
No. Biosecurity Tasmania states there are no restrictions on importing cats into Tasmania, and cats do not need to be declared or inspected at the border. The cat should be healthy enough to travel with its vaccinations up to date. Our kittens leave with two F3 vaccinations and a vet health certificate, so they meet that before they board.
Four cats per property, under the Cat Management Act 2009. The limit has applied since 1 March 2022, and keeping more than four cats over four months old generally needs a multiple cat permit unless an exception applies, such as being a registered breeder. If you already have three cats and want a Ragdoll pair, sort out the permit before you reserve.
Yes. Tasmania's Cat Management Act requires cats over four months old to be desexed and microchipped, unless a vet certifies the procedure would harm the cat or another exemption applies. Our kittens are desexed and microchipped by our vet before they leave Bowral at twelve to thirteen weeks, so you will not need to book either procedure after they arrive.
Usually $350 to $550, charged at exactly what the pet transporter bills us. The price depends on the airline, the routing and the size of the carrier. It is paid on top of the kitten's price, which is $1,500 for every colour and pattern. Our kittens for sale page lists what is included.
