Ragdoll kittens Canberra and the ACT
Looking for Ragdoll kittens for sale in Canberra? I'm Shannon from Regal Ragdoll Kittens, and my family and I raise Ragdolls in our home in Bowral, NSW. Canberra is close enough that most ACT families drive up the Hume and Federal highways to collect their kitten in person: about 180 km, or a little over two hours each way.
Our kittens go home at twelve to thirteen weeks, already desexed, microchipped and vaccinated twice, and both parents have DNA results negative for HCM (RD) and PKD. That head start matters in the ACT more than anywhere else we send kittens, because every Ragdoll you buy now will live under the Territory's cat containment law from its first day in your house.
Below are the litters currently growing up in our kitchen and lounge. Each kitten's status is kept up to date, and a Canberra family can reserve any available kitten with a deposit from six weeks old, taken off the final price. Joining the waitlist costs nothing.

Long, plush and happiest stretched out on the cat bed.

A round, soft boy who purrs as soon as you look at him.

Six weeks old, wobbly on her feet and already marching up to meet visitors.

Calm, cuddly and happiest asleep on someone's shoulder.

Playful, bold and fascinated by running water.

Sweet natured and devoted to her brother Ned.

Extra fluffy and happy to be carried around the house.

Long-legged, chatty and the first to the door.
The drive is simple. From Bowral you join the Hume Highway heading south, pass Goulburn, then take the Federal Highway past Lake George and into the city from the north. Plan on about an hour at our place for the paperwork, the microchip transfer on the NSW Pet Registry, and a proper look at what and how your kitten eats. Collection is always by appointment.
Bring a hard-sided carrier and a towel. Seat-belt the carrier on the back seat, put the blanket from our house inside, and resist opening the door for a cuddle on the highway. A kitten that slips out of a carrier at a Goulburn service station is a kitten you may not get back.
The Federal Highway delivers you almost straight into Gungahlin, so families in Casey, Ngunnawal, Throsby or Moncrieff have the shortest run home. Throsby and Moncrieff are also two of the ACT's declared cat containment suburbs, which I explain below.
Add twenty minutes or so across the city. The new Molonglo Valley suburbs, Coombs, Wright, Denman Prospect, Whitlam and Strathnairn, are all declared containment areas, so if you already have an older cat there, it falls under the same rule as your new kitten.
Tuggeranong is the longest stretch of the trip, so time your pick-up to avoid peak hour on the Tuggeranong Parkway. Queanbeyan, Jerrabomberra and Googong sit in New South Wales, not the ACT, so Territory cat laws do not apply there. Check with Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council about local requirements.
| Option | Travel time | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Collect from our home in Bowral by car | About 2 hours 15 minutes each way (roughly 180 km) | No charge from us |
| Licensed pet transporter to Canberra Airport | Set by the transporter's flight booking | At cost, usually $350 to $550 |
| Visit first, then collect at 12 to 13 weeks | Two return trips, visits from six weeks | No charge from us |
My honest opinion for Canberra: drive. A licensed transporter is safe and we use them every season for families further away, but for a two-hour trip a flight adds check-in, cargo handling and at least $350 for nothing your kitten will thank you for. A kitten who travels on your back seat, smelling our blanket and hearing your voice, almost always walks out of the carrier calmer at the other end. Our Ragdoll kitten delivery page covers the flight option if you need it anyway.
The ACT has some of the firmest cat rules in Australia. Here is what applies to a kitten from us, in plain terms. Laws and fees change, so confirm the details with ACT Domestic Animal Services through Access Canberra on 13 22 81 before your kitten arrives.
Every cat in the ACT born after 1 July 2022 must be contained on your property 24 hours a day. That includes all of our kittens. Containment can mean your house or apartment, an enclosed area in a backyard or courtyard, a cat crate, or being on a leash. Separately, a list of declared containment suburbs applies the rule to cats of any age, which matters if your current cat is older and used to wandering.
Registration is compulsory for cats over eight weeks old once the cat and its keeper have been in the ACT for 28 days. There is a one-time fee, then a free yearly renewal through the Pet Registration Portal in your ACT Digital Account.
All cats in the ACT must be microchipped, and cats over three months must be desexed unless the owner holds a sexually entire permit. Our kittens leave already chipped and desexed, so you are compliant from the moment you cross the border. Keep the microchip contact details current through Pet Address, as the ACT advises.
A multiple cat licence is needed to keep four or more cats on a residential property in the ACT. If you are adding a Ragdoll pair to a home that already has two cats, apply before you collect.
Containment and Ragdolls get on well. They are floor-level, people-following cats who would rather sit on the end of your bed than patrol a fence line, and of all the breeds I know they are the least bothered by an indoor life. What they need instead is company, a tall scratching post and somewhere interesting to look out of. You can read more about their temperament in our notes on what Ragdolls are like as a breed.
If you build an enclosed outdoor run, think about both ends of the Canberra year. A north-facing catio catches winter sun after a hard frost, but the same spot can be brutal on a summer afternoon in the mid-thirties. Run shade cloth over the top, keep a water bowl out of the sun, and give your cat a way back inside at all times. A Ragdoll's semi-long coat will cope with a crisp July morning far better than with a February heatwave.
Canberra houses run ducted heating for months, and dry heated air brings out static and the odd knot behind the ears. A wide-toothed metal comb twice a week through winter is enough. Expect a heavier moult in spring as the coat thins out for summer, usually in October and November.
Because the ACT counts a cat on a leash as contained, harness training is worth the effort. Start indoors with a light H-harness at around fourteen weeks, a few minutes at a time with treats. Many Ragdolls will happily sit on a lawn on a lead. Canberra's nature reserves are full of birds, skinks and small marsupials, and containment exists largely to protect them, so stick to your own yard rather than reserve edges.
If you are weighing up the cost of a Ragdoll against other breeds, our Ragdoll kittens for sale page lists every kitten with its price, and how to buy a kitten from us walks through the waitlist and deposit step by step. You can also meet the parents of every litter on our Bowral queens and king page.

Bowral is about 180 km from central Canberra, a little over two hours each way via the Hume and Federal highways. Most ACT families make it a day trip: drive up in the morning, spend about an hour with us doing paperwork and meeting the kitten's mother, then drive home. Collection is by appointment, and we can suggest a time that misses the Friday afternoon traffic out of Canberra.
Yes, if the cat was born after 1 July 2022, which covers every kitten we sell. ACT law requires these cats to be contained on your premises 24 hours a day. That can mean indoors, a fully enclosed courtyard or backyard area, a cat crate, or on a leash. Ragdolls handle this better than most breeds because they are home-loving and rarely try to escape.
A cat must be registered in the ACT once it is over eight weeks old and both you and the cat have been in the Territory for 28 days. You pay a one-time fee through the Pet Registration Portal in your ACT Digital Account, then confirm the details free of charge each year. Our kittens arrive at twelve to thirteen weeks, so register within your first four weeks home.
Yes, we can. A licensed pet transport company flies the kitten in an airline-approved carrier and you collect at Canberra Airport. The cost is charged at what the transporter bills us, usually $350 to $550. For Canberra, though, I nearly always suggest driving to Bowral instead, because a two-hour car trip is gentler on a kitten than airport handling. See our kitten delivery page for details.
Yes. Visits to our Bowral home are by appointment once the kittens are six weeks old, and many Canberra families come up twice: once to choose and once to collect. If one trip suits you better, we can do a video call to help you choose, then you visit on collection day. Reserved families also get weekly photos and videos until go-home.
About ninety minutes from Bowral, most Sydney families collect in person.
Up Macquarie Pass or the motorway, the Illawarra is our closest coastal region.
Every city and region we send kittens to, with travel and local rules.
Let me know your suburb, any cats or dogs already at home, and the colour or pattern you have your heart set on. You will hear back from me, not a form letter, usually within two days. NSW Breeder ID B0273618228.
