Buying a kitten
Ragdoll kitten health guarantee
Every Ragdoll kitten we sell goes home with a written health guarantee. It covers your kitten's health when you take them home, and inherited conditions linked to the breed for the first two years.
It sits on top of your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, not instead of them. A signed copy is in your kitten's folder, and this page explains it in plain English.
What is covered
- Health at go-home. Have your own vet check your kitten within three business days of arrival. If your vet finds a serious illness or defect that was present before go-home, you can return the kitten for a full refund or choose a replacement kitten.
- Inherited conditions for two years. If your cat is diagnosed by a vet with HCM or PKD, or another serious congenital condition, before their second birthday, I will offer a replacement kitten or a refund of the purchase price.
- Lifelong support. Advice on feeding, behaviour and health whenever you need it.
What is not covered
- Illness or injury caused by accidents, other animals or the home environment after go-home.
- Infections picked up after your kitten has left us, including colds and stomach upsets from the stress of moving.
- Problems caused by changes in diet, missed vaccinations or not following your vet's advice.
- Coat colour, markings, size or show quality, none of which affect health.
- Vet bills, which is why we include six weeks of pet insurance and recommend you keep it.
Your part
- The vet check within three business days of arrival, with a copy of the vet's notes sent to me.
- Telling me within seven days if your vet finds a problem, so I can help straight away.
- Keeping your kitten indoors or in a secure run, and up to date with vaccinations and vet checks.
- A written vet diagnosis for any claim about an inherited condition.
Why I can offer this guarantee
Every one of our queens and our king is DNA tested negative for the Ragdoll HCM (RD) mutation and for PKD, so two negative parents cannot pass either mutation on. Kittens are raised indoors, vaccinated twice, wormed and flea treated, and examined by our vet in the week before they leave. You can meet the parents and see their results on our queens and king page.
A DNA test cannot rule out every form of heart disease. That is exactly why the guarantee runs for two years rather than stopping at the day you collect.
Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law
When you buy a kitten from a business, the consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law apply. Nothing in our guarantee or kitten sale terms takes those rights away. If something goes wrong, call me first on 0420 163 548. I would always rather fix a problem than argue about it.
Health guarantee questions
Does the Australian Consumer Law cover kittens?
Yes. A kitten bought from a business is covered by the consumer guarantees in the Australian Consumer Law, which say it must be of acceptable quality and match its description. Our written guarantee is in addition to those rights and does not replace them. If you think a kitten has a problem that existed when you bought it, contact me first so we can sort it out together.
What should I do if my kitten gets sick after going home?
Take them to your vet first, then call me on the same day. Kittens can pick up a cold or tummy upset from the stress of moving, and most clear quickly with vet care. Send me your vet's notes. If the problem turns out to be something covered by this guarantee, I will work through the options with you straight away.
